Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen is a gritty modern-day story, with an impressive rating by Nicholas Britell, and dream-like dance sequences that evoke magic realism.
The story follows a younger and fiercely unbiased girl who’s pressured to flee her residence within the Mexican desert following the brutal homicide of her mom, one other robust and mysterious girl. Carmen survives a terrifying and harmful unlawful border crossing into the US, solely to be confronted by a lawless volunteer border guard who cold-bloodedly murders two different immigrants in her group. When the border guard and his patrol companion, Aidan — a Marine with PTSD — develop into embroiled in a lethal standoff, Carmen and Aidan are pressured to flee collectively. They make their approach north towards Los Angeles in the hunt for Carmen’s mom’s greatest good friend, the mercurial Masilda and proprietor of La Sombra nightclub — a sanctuary of music and dance. Carmen and Aidan discover each solace and their unwavering love for one another within the security of Masilda’s magical refuge, however time is working out because the police hunt closes in.
Directed by Benjamin Millepied, the brand new movie adaptation stars Melissa Barrera, Paul Mescal, Rossy de Palma, and THE DOC.
It opens in LA and NYC cinemas on twenty first April 2023.
